Common SEO Tactics That You’re Not Using Right

When creating or maintaining a website, SEO is undeniably one of the most important aspects that you need to keep in mind. Having a beautiful and well-organized site is fantastic, but if search engines aren’t able to properly locate it, you’re facing a pretty serious issue.

Even for experts, knowing how to properly implement SEO tactics into your website can often times be a rather challenging thing. SEO is one of the most complex and complicated things to maintain with any website out there, as it’s the difference between whether or not your site gets the traffic that it so desperately needs.

However, since SEO is such a complex process, there are endless different practices and tactics that folks use when implementing it into their site. Some of these are quite commonplace, and others are more unorthodox than others. While there isn’t necessarily one right way to use SEO for every site out there, there are certainly set methods that you can use to ensure that your site is getting as much visibility as possible.

Unfortunately, for a lot of people out there, they’re using tactics and practices that are entirely wrong – despite them thinking that they’re doing their site good. Search engines change as the Internet changes, and those changes take place on a pretty daily basis. So, the SEO tactics that you started using when you first created your site might not necessarily be the most effective in 2016.

Today, we’re going to be taking a look at some of the most common SEO tactics that you’re not using right. You may be using all of these, or you might just be using one or two. Either way, it’s a good eye opener to see what not to do when it comes to creating and keeping up the SEO for your particular site.


Keywords vs Content

Just a couple years ago, keywords use to be the name of the game when it came to SEO. However, that throne has since been replaced by content. While keywords are still incredibly important, focusing on creating good content first is much more important than throwing around a certain set of keywords are frequent and often as you can.

For a lot of people out there, it can be incredibly easy to simply use a handful of keywords as often as they possibly can. However, when this takes place, the content on the site often becomes unnatural and unpleasant to read. Search engines are now on the hunt for content like this, and if they see keywords being stuffed into content in an unnatural manner, they will penalize the site that’s doing this. Although it can be easy to fall into this pitfall, always make sure that you’re putting quality content in front of a large quantity of keywords. Your visitors and search engines will both greatly appreciate this.


Allow Search Engines to “See” your Images

Good image use on a website can go a long way in regards to engaging your visitors in the content that you have to share. Images can be great tools when it comes to telling a story, selling a product, or driving home an important message. However, while simply uploading an image will be fine for people actually visiting your site, there’s a bit more work involved to ensure that search engines can properly see the images you’re uploading as well.

Whenever publishing an image to you site, there are a couple different things that you need to ensure you’re doing. First off, make sure that the file name for the image is properly titled and related to what the actual image is depicting. Secondly, don’t blow off updating your alt text for every single photo that’s uploaded to your site. Alt text (or alt description) is essentially a text description of what the image you’re uploading is. For example, if you uploaded a picture of a boy with a dog, some proper alt text would read “Boy playing outside with dog.” This might seem like a tedious process at first, and it’s often times one of the most overlooked sides of SEO. However, it is also one of the most important factors to keep in mind.


Social media presence – quantity and quality

Social media is absolutely huge, and in 2016, it’s absolutely detrimental to have a successful presence built up on social networking sites if you want to remain a serious contender in the field that you’re operating in. However, when building up your social media presence, it can often be easy to focus on getting your number of Followers, Fans, and Likes up as high as you possibly can.

While large numbers like these are great to have, the way that you engage with your follows is much more important. On social media, you want to ensure that you’re properly communicating and engaging with the followers that you currently have, rather than putting all of your attention on simply getting bigger and bigger numbers of followers and such.


If you find yourself taking part in any of the tactics that we talked about today, fret not! These are practices that the majority of people out there find themselves doing, but it’s better to be aware than to be entirely clueless. By reworking the way you conduct some of your SEO work, you can have a pretty substantial boost in just how well your SEO will actually work for you. Although you might not see huge changes right away, they’re bound to come sooner rather than later. Start nailing the right practices now, and you’ll have much more efficient and proper SEO tomorrow.
